Description:
This session will provide a step-by-step guide to sections B, C, D, E, F and Q. MDS accuracy and best practices for gathering and auditing data will be provided. This session will also provide guidance for direct care team members who may be responsible for completing the supporting documentation to justify MDS 3.0 coding. During this session, interview techniques will also be discussed to ensure the highest level of MDS and care planning quality.

Objectives:
Following this presentation, the participant will be able to:
? Discuss CMS coding definitions for Sections B, C, D, E, F, and Q
? Discuss the supporting documentation necessary for accuracy of MDS 3.0 coding.
? Identify common coding errors and ways to reduce the likelihood of their occurrence.
? Describe interview techniques and CMS rules for interview

Tammy Cassidy, President

Ms. Cassidy has over 21 years of long term care management experience. This experience includes roles as Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, MDS Coordinator, Corporate Clinical Compliance/Risk Manager and Vice President of Clinical Quality. Ms. Cassidy is also a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in the State of Ohio. She has worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, specializing in MDS, as a DAVE2 surveyor. Ms. Cassidy is certified in Gerontological Nursing, and is a Certified Resident Assessment Coordinator through the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators. She received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Miami University. A major focus of Ms. Cassidy's is to raise awareness of the MDS process, correct coding, and reimbursement. She is the immediate past president of OANAC (Ohio Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators) and continues to serve on their board.

CEUs & Other Education Requirements:


Each program is approved for one (1.0) hour of credit for nursing home administrators and nurses. Individual attendance will be monitored throughout the call. Only those attending the entire call will be awarded continuing education credit. All participants regardless of need for CEUs, will receive a certificate of attendance. This course is considered a self-study course by Ohio BELTSS. Administrators are reminded that BELTSS limits teleconference (home/self-study) credits to a total of ten (10.0) per renewal period.

How much does it cost?

Facilities will pay one low fee for an unlimited number of participants. However, the number and access code is valid only for one phone line/computer at the location registered with the Association. Any additional phone connections calling in will be billed the individual session registration fee.
