Prevent 'Institutional Creep' by Focusing on the LIVING in Assisted Living

June 26, 2019
Live Webinar
2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

CE for CEAL, NHA, Nurses

Join us to take a look at the many ways the institution has creeped into assisted living. Analyze your systems; do they promote individualization, true home, and self-determination. Do they provide 'optimal social, physical, and emotional well-being' and honor the right to participate in decisions that affect the resident's life' as required by Ohio RCF requirements? Ponder ways to promote and protect LIVING in assisted living. Think through life through the eyes of people living there. Is sleep honored? Is choice given all day long in all ways possible? Hear how residents can be honored in decision-making about their home regarding budget, hiring of people who care for them, and what you can do to create community.

Objectives:

Participants will be able to:
1. Identify ways that assisted living can be institutional.
2. Name culture change practices that honor individualization instead of institutionalization.
3. Describe the Ohio RCF requirements that the ideas of culture change and person-centeredness meet.
