In 2008, Ohio passed a rule allowing Skilled Nursing Facilities the ability to hire Medication Aides. This webinar will discuss the benefits of utilizing medication aides as well as the requirements needed to maintain an effective program. In addition, templates will be provided outlining specific policies related to the medication aide and their administration of medication. The speaker, Debra Kriner RN, has utilized medication aides in her nursing facility since 2012. She will discuss how they have provided positive benefits to her nurses and to the residents. A list of training sites will also be provided.
Objectives:
1. Understand the history of the rule as well as where to find the requirements.
2. Be informed of the benefits of utilizing medication aides
3. Be provided templates to help develop their program
4. Be aware of programs being offered in their area

Debra Kriner is a registered nurse who has more than 30 years experience in the long term care field. Debra currently is Director of Clinical Services at a CCRC in Findlay Ohio which is owned by a regional health organization. She has provided clinical consultation to numerous facilities during her 30 years as well as being a resource to several law firms. Debra has had the opportunity to utilize medication aides for the past 8 years and is an advocate in promoting this program.
This program is approved for one (1) hour of credit for nursing home administrators, nurses and CEAL.
How much does it cost?

Facilities will pay one low fee for an unlimited number of participants. However, the number and access code is valid only for one phone line/computer at the location registered with the Association. Any additional phone connections calling in will be billed the individual session registration fee.
