Ohio CEHCH is a comprehensive certification program designed to elevate the skills and professionalism of home health, palliative and hospice care executives in Ohio by combining national competency standards with Ohio most comprehensive state-specific training.
While the state of Ohio does not require a certification or license to be an executive of a home health, palliative and hospice care organization, several states are considering adopting requirements. Therefore the CEHCH aligned it's program with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Board (NAB) Home & Community Based Services Examination, thereby allowing credentialed individuals to meet national competency standards.
The NAB National Home and Community Based Services Line of Service Examination Program (HCBS) (55 questions) exam encompasses independent living, adult day, home, home health, palliative and hospice care. The purpose of the HCBS examination is to protect the public by ensuring that entry-level home and community based administrators have mastered a specific body of knowledge while demonstrating the skills and abilities essential to competent practice within the profession.

What is NAB?
About the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) NAB is the nation's leading authority on licensing, credentialing, and regulating administrators of organizations along the continuum of long term care.
The mission of a NAB member state regulatory board or agency includes public protection of the residents and clients of America's skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and home and community based services. As such, NAB strives to support member boards and agencies in carrying out their mission through the development and provision of entry-level competency examinations, standards, shared resources, and tools to assist them in their role of licensure of nursing home, assisted living, and home and community based services administrators. NAB examinations are also used as a component in meeting the eligibility criteria for professional certification programs.
Course Prerequisite:
To register for the course, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
* Hold a bachelors/master degree with at least 3 years home health/hospice administrator experience;
* Hold an associates degree with at least 4 years of home health/hospice administrator experience;
* Have a high school diploma with at least 5 years of home health/hospice administrator experience;
* Licensed as a nursing home administrator (NHA) or certified as a Certified Executive for Assisted Living (CEAL)**;
* Is a licensed professional in a health-related field**.
**Please note: it is recommended to have at least one year or more of hospice/home care administrative or upper-level management experience prior to attending this course.
Receiving Certification & Renewal:
Initial Certification: In order to receive the certification, participants must attend all four days of the CEHCH program, complete the required self study courses, score at least 85% or higher on the state component exam and pass the NAB HCBS Exam.
Certification Renewal: In order to ensure continued competency, certified participants must renew their certification biennially. Renewal is accomplished by completing 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years on subjects relevant to home & community based services operations, management and philosophy.

Course Schedule
All programs will be held in Columbus, Ohio from 8 am - 5 pm. Lunch will be provided each day as well as continental breakfast and beverages. Directions, nearby hotels and other details will be provided upon receipt of registration for the course.

Training Course Format:
The course begins with two days of state-specific training encompassing the current climate of home & community based services in Ohio. Training will cover such things as survey and regulatory management, working within the continuum of care, marketing, legal compliance, risk management, personnel requirements as well as clinical operations management.
Following the initial two days of training, participants will be given self-study materials and will be required to complete the projects prior to the beginning of the final two days of training which will occur a few weeks later.
The final two days of training will cover NAB?s areas of practice within the home & community based services arena. This includes details on:
* Customer Care, Supports, and Services
* Human Resources
* Finance
* Environment
* Management and Leadership
Quizzes and small group activities will reinforce the content through an overview of national best practices.
Students will be required to complete self-study homework assignments.
Students must register for the HCBS exam within 30 days from the last day of the Certification Class. They will then have 60 days to schedule their exam date.

Contact Hours
Ohio Nurses: Nurses in Ohio can use any credit approved by BELTSS.
Certified Executives for Assisted Living (CEAL): 26 hours of continuing education credit can be used toward CEAL renewal.
Ohio Licensed Administrators: The Ohio Health Care Association is an approved provider of continuing education credit by the Ohio Board of Executives for Long Term Care Services & Supports (BELTSS). Administrations can earn 26 hours of continuing education credit.

Students will register and pay for the NAB testing separate and apart from CEHCH program fees.
Please note: the cost for the NAB examination is separate and apart from the CEHCH training fees. This fee will be paid by the student to NAB. Do not send to EFOHCA. Information on applying for the NAB examination will be presented during Day 4 of the CEHCH course.
