Wound care in post-acute settings presents assessment, treatment and documentation challenges for the nursing team. This webinar series is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills needed for implementing a comprehensive and effective wound care management system. Participants will be prepared to meet the CMS wound related requirements in the areas of assessment, MDS coding, CAA and care plan development, as well as prevention and treatment of pressure associated wounds. This first presentation in the 6-part series will enhance the participants grasp of skin and wound assessment basics, as well as providing insight into common assessment pitfalls that can result in poor clinical outcomes, survey deficiencies and potential litigation.
Learning Objectives 1. Participants will recognize the essential elements of a thorough and accurate skin/wound assessment. 2. Participants will understand the key characteristics that comprise a precise representation of the healing status of wounds. 3. Participants will be prepared to avoid the common assessment pitfalls that can result in poor clinical outcomes, survey deficiencies and potential litigation.

Janine Lehman, RN, RAC-CT, CLNC Director of Legal Nurse Consulting
Janine is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years? experience in long term care, working in all nursing capacities from Nursing Assistant and Charge Nurse, to MDS Coordinator, Staff Development Coordinator, ADON and DON. She is MDS Certified through AANAC, and is a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. Her background includes serving as a Corporate Nurse Consultant, and the Director of Clinical Services for a multi-facility, multi-level of care organization. She has extensive experience in the RAI process, clinical documentation, legal nurse consulting, wound care, restorative nursing programs, fall management, QAPI, and infection control, and has provided training on these topics for State and National organizations.
