This enables us to decipher myths/opinion from requirement particularly within Tag 679 Activities. Knowing how to assess and care plan for any trauma a person has encountered is both best practice and required by CMS regulations. Know the requirements, how to discover potential trauma, how to plan proactively in a highly individualized way, and be alert to not inadvertently retraumatize a person. Tap into approaches that help and are mentioned in the requirements: increasing autonomy, keeping individuals in touch with their family, friends and communities, cultural heritage, former lifestyle, and religious practices, intentional welcoming and building companionship, relationships and friendships.

The benefits to both older people and children of all ages to one another is well known. It must be an all-community approach though; the activity director alone doesn't know enough babies. Expand the reach to find the babies, the most accessible children and maximize their being together. Babies and children give the gift of touch and respect to older individuals who need more opportunities to gift children with their love, encouragement and wisdom. Did you know that children in China go to be with older people 'to become wise'? Learn the value of hosting a kids day camp and many other doable opportunities to bring ages together. Carmen Bowman is owner of Edu-Catering: Catering Education for Compliance and Culture Change, turning her former role of regulator into educator. Carmen was a Colorado state surveyor for nine years, a policy analyst with CMS Central Office where she taught the national Basic Surveyor Course and was the first certified activity professional to be a surveyor. Carmen has a Master's degree in Healthcare Systems, a Bachelor?s in Social Work and German, is a Certified Eden Associate and Eden Mentor, Certified Validation Worker and Group Practitioner. Carmen is host of the webinar Conversations with Carmen. She co-developed the Artifacts of Culture Change 2.0 (ACC) measurement tool. She is author of Action Pact workbooks: Living Life to the Fullest, Quality of Life, and Regulatory Support for Culture Change. She has co-authored: Changing the Culture of Care Planning, Soften the Assessment Process and Vibrant Living.

Jennifer Brush, MA, SLP is a Fulbright Specialist, researcher, award-winning dementia care author and healthcare consultant located in northeast Ohio. Jennifer serves as Program Director, Montessori Education for Dementia St. Nicholas Montessori College Ireland. Jennifer was an inaugural member of the Association Montessori International (AMI) Advisory Board for Montessori for Dementia and Aging. She was one of the first three AMI Certified Trainers for Montessori for Dementia and Aging in the world, as well as the first in the US. Jennifer is the author of numerous research articles and several nationally recognized books on dementia including her latest book, Montessori for Elder and Dementia Care, published by Health Professions Press. Jennifer is widely known for her innovative work in the Spaced Retrieval memory intervention, pioneering this area of study in speech-language pathology and co-authoring two books on the subject.

Kelly de la Rocha is a poet, journalist and founder of poem RENOVATION, a daily word challenge that promotes literacy, creativity, mental acuity and social-emotional health. A 2024 Yale Innovation Summit winner, poem RENOVATION is making inroads in academia and elder care. Kelly?s poetry and feature stories have appeared in more than 50 publications in the US and abroad. A native of New York?s Capital Region, she now lives in Farmington, CT.

Dr. Anna Fisher is a certified dementia practitioner, certified Alzheimer?s disease and dementia care trainer, and certified Montessori dementia care professional. She is a nurse, education consultant, and also an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Bellevue University. She continues as a board member and officer of the Hillcrest Foundation, president of the Bellevue Public Schools Foundation board, and producer of the WOWT-NBC television program series, Now What?, about elder care, dementia, and mental/behavioral health. Dr. Fisher also serves as a Clinical Practice Committee member, Emergency Preparedness Committee member, and Quality Award Senior Examiner for the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center of Assisted Living (NCAL). She is Chair of the Omaha-Metropolitan Healthcare Coalition (OMHCC) Non-Hospital Healthcare Workgroup and a working group member of the National Advisory Committee on Seniors and Disasters (NACSD).

Molly J. Mackey is an author, speaker and trainer of leaders. She believes that by intentionally intersecting the ongoing journeys of leadership and learning we can create better leaders and Better Leaders = Better Lives
Molly is the founder and chief learning officer of the LEAdeRNship Institute. She also serves as the Director of Knowledge Acquisition and Transfer at Optimae LifeServices. Molly has over 18 years of business and speaking experience. She has a passion for business, strategy, leadership and learning. She has taught business classes at a collegiate level since 2009.
Molly J. Mackey received her undergraduate degree and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. In the fall of 2021, she earned her Certified Professional of Talent Development (CPTD) designation from the Association of Talent Development.

Tonja Moon, Founder, The Grand Baby Project, Dementia Engagement Strategies

Jami Myers, OT is the Chief of Organization Development for Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care? (PAC). She earned her master's in occupational therapy from West Virginia University. Over her 13-year career, Jami has pursued her passion for supporting people living with brain change. She has worked in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and memory care organizations, inpatient rehabilitation, acute care hospitals, and home health agencies in West Virginia, Ohio, and Nevada. In 2016, Jami first connected with Teepa Snow, which immediately sparked a new passion for changing the way support is offered to those living with brain change. Jami inspired this change at her home facility and began traveling throughout the country, educating over 250 of her company?s clinicians, administrators, and staff members about PAC Skills. During this time, Jami completed her PAC Coach Certification to facilitate ongoing skill development within her work community. In 2022, she began her journey as a PAC Mentor and has never looked back. Jami continues to advocate on a local, state, and national level for policy change for those living with brain change. Her full-time role with PAC allows her to follow her passion of supporting organizations willing to demonstrate the time, effort, willingness, and dedication to change the culture of care for the better.

Jill Ricker serves as National Director of SAIDO Learning? & Memory Care for Covenant Living Communities and Services. The organization is the Master License Holder in North America for the innovative initiative developed by the Kumon Learning Therapy Center, part of the Kumon Institute of Education in Japan, as a program designed for individuals with memory impairment. As director of operations, Jill is certified as a SAIDO Master, dementia practitioner, and a licensed Brain Health Trainer. Jill draws on her 10+ years of experience with SAIDO to provide oversight, implementation, and collaboration with SAIDO teams across the United States as well as Japan, with the goal of reaching as many people as possible to live rich and full lives in spite of this vicious disease. Jill?s experience also includes business development and international business consulting with companies in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Sri Lanka within the field of health care in marketing and sales.

Nicole Root is a Creative Engagement Specialist with over 10 years of experience working with adults of diverse abilities. She is the creator of TrayScapes, a unique hands-on, sensory-based experience designed to engage participants in meaningful activities across assisted living, memory care, healthcare, and adult day centers. In addition to facilitating TrayScapes sessions, Nicole is passionate about empowering activity directors to create more engaging and inclusive arts and crafts experiences. She specializes in teaching three simple shifts that transform traditional projects into more adaptable and accessible activities for adults with varying abilities. Through her innovative approach, Nicole has helped countless activity directors expand beyond conventional approaches to arts and crafts, making their programs more enriching and impactful.

Jessica Smith started her career 14 years ago as a care assistant in memory care assisted living. Since, she has taken roles from home health community marketing to leadership positions in assisted living and skilled nursing memory care unit management and obtained her Ohio Nursing Home Administrator license in 2016 and Michigan in 2020. After practicing as an Administrator through the pandemic, she joined AGE-u-cate? in October 2022. Focusing on the need for quality education surrounding dementia, Jessica uses her background of working with residents, families, and staff members to assist skilled nursing communities in enrolling in CMP grant projects through AGE-u-cate. Jessica has a B.S. in Long Term Health Care Administration from Ohio University in Athens, OH. She lives in the country town of Metamora, just west of Toledo, OH.


Continuing Education Credits:

Full Conference registrants are able to receive up to 21 hours of credit are available.
(February 10 = 5 hours; February 11 =9.5 hours; February 12 = 6.5 hours)

Activity Professionals:
Application for 21 credits has been approved by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.

Certified Executives for Assisted Living (CEAL):
Up to 21 hours are available during this program and can be used toward renewal of the CEAL certification.

Nurses:
Nurses, please note any continuing education that has been approved by BELTSS (or any other accredited body) can be accepted by the Ohio Board of Nursing in the State of Ohio. Nurses may use this continuing education to meet their licensure requirements. Please refer to OBN continuing education rules 4723-14-01 thru 4723-14-19. Nurses may obtain up to 21 hours utilizing this rule.

Ohio Administrators:
The Ohio Health Care Association is an approved provider of continuing education credit by the Ohio Board of Executives for Long Term Services and Supports (BELTSS). Up to 21 hours are available during this program for Ohio NHAs.

Social Work:
This workshop has been approved by the NASW Ohio Chapter for 21 CEUs in Ohio. NASW is recognized as a Continuing Education Approver for social work CEUs by the OCSWMFT Board. If you are audited provide the above number. This number does not match the format for other provider?s numbers because NASW is a Continuing Education Approver rather than a provider.
